The small town is part of the historical region of Roero, located on the border with the province of Asti, about halfway between the cities of Alba and Asti.

It was the holiday home of the Savoy family in the early decades of the nineteenth century. Its profile is recognisable among the many hills that characterise the area thanks to the Castle, majestic and imposing.

The philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau, who entered the service of Count Ottavio Solaro, stayed here at the age of eighteen (year 1730). The writer Carolina Invernizio, a popular author of appendix novels between the 19th and 20th centuries, lived here.

Since 2007 it has hosted the Magical Christmas Village which, from a small event has become, in the space of 15 years, one of the main destinations of the Christmas holidays.
